Common mistakes in telecom contracts
6 min read
Most telecom contract regret doesn’t come from the headline price — it comes from a clause nobody read closely at signing. A few patterns show up repeatedly in the contracts we review.
Discounts that expire silently
A promotional discount tied to a 12 or 24-month term often reverts to standard pricing automatically, with no separate notice, once the term ends. The invoice keeps arriving; the price just quietly goes up.
Auto-renewal without a review window
Contracts that auto-renew for another full term unless cancelled within a narrow window can lock you into pricing you never intended to keep. Calendar the review date, not just the contract end date.
Vague early termination terms
If a contract doesn’t clearly state the early termination fee formula, assume it will be calculated in the carrier’s favor. Get it in writing before you need it.
